How to Achieve Long-term Success with Your Temporary Staffing Partner

Do you have a strong relationship with your staffing agency? If you answered “No,” or “Am I supposed to have one,” read on. Your staffing agency should be one of your business partners, working to better your results and improve your chances of success. And because they’re responsible for bringing new employees into your business, they need to truly understand the needs of your company.

Here are five tips that will help you get the most out working with your staffing partner:

1) Help Them Get To Know You And Your Needs

Take the time up front to talk with your staffing agency representative. Educate them about your culture and the kinds of personalities that are a fit within your company. Share as much detail as possible about your company missions, values and needs. The better your partner understands your company, the better they will be able to fulfill your staffing needs.

2) Discuss Challenges

Be up front about staffing challenges your business faces when meeting with your staffing partner. Share not only the challenges you have faced in the past, but also concerns you have about future staffing needs.

3) Provide Detailed Work Orders

These should describe the experience and characteristics you are looking for in a successful candidate, as well as the duties they will be expected to fulfill. The more detail you are able to provide, the more selective your recruiter will be able to be in evaluating potential candidates. Differentiate between those traits and skills that are “a must” for the job or for the company, and mention those that are good to have but not a “have to have.”

4) Provide Regular Feedback

Whether a specific candidate does not perform to your expectations, or a candidate exceeds your expectations, share this with your staffing firm rep. This will allow them to constantly improve the selection process for your company.

5) Work Together to Plan Ahead

If you have regular busy seasons or ups and downs in your staffing needs, plan with your staffing partner to make sure you have people in place, ready to go to work when you need them.

When you communicate regularly with your staffing agency and give them enough information, not only will candidates they send be a better fit, but you’ll also spend a lot less time calling and emailing back and forth with your rep during the process.
