Are You Offering Job Seekers What They Want Most? Attract Top Talent by Meeting Their Wish List

The employer/employee dynamic is a two-way street. You want to employ the best candidates, and they want to receive what they deserve in return. The key to keeping everyone happy is understanding what it is your employees value and desire. When hiring new talent, take inventory of what you currently provide and consider the following:

  • Compensation.  When considering new opportunities and potential new employers, compensation is a huge priority for workers. To provide pay that is both fair and competitive, the best thing employers can do is create a compensation strategy. This ensures you are doing right by both your company and your employees.
  • Benefits.  Just because you offer a benefits package to your employees does not necessarily mean it’s the right one. Take stock of which benefits your employees are taking advantage of, and which ones they aren’t utilizing. If applicable, consider replacing some current benefits with newer, more desirable ones.
  • Advancement. It may not be feasible to offer a promotion to each of your employees, but there are other ways to empower them and help advance their career development within your organization. Look into incorporating various resources to help your employees learn new skills to take on greater responsibilities and projects.
  • Work-life balance. Examine your employees’ levels of satisfaction. Work with them to find where there may be opportunities to allow more flexible work arrangements, such as abbreviated Friday schedules or telecommuting options every so often.
  • Appreciation. Making the effort to recognize your employees will give your company a competitive edge when hiring new employees. While this isn’t necessarily pricey, it is an investment. However, a small token of recognition can go a long way; by attracting and retaining quality employees, the venture of showing appreciation to your employees will prove to be a great return on investment.

While this list provides a good foundation for what employees are seeking, it is still important to stay current to thoroughly understand the needs and wants of the candidates you are trying to attract.
