Want to Succeed in Your New Job? Follow the 30/60/90 Rule.

Starting a new job can be an exciting new adventure, but it can also be accompanied by a multitude of anxiety. Combining the stresses of learning a new routine with the pressures to succeed in your new position and impress your new employer can lead to a great deal of nervous tension. Luckily, there’s an easy solution to help alleviate a lot of the strain that comes with the territory of being a new employee; organize your goals into a simple plan to follow based on your first 30, 60, and 90 days on the job.

  • 30 days – Learn. Many new hires strive to hit the ground running – which is excellent, as long as you don’t neglect taking the time to truly understand the company’s vision and goals. Begin exploring the organization’s internal culture by understanding your boss’s expectations of you and building professional relationships with your new co-workers.
  • 60 days – Contribute. After you’ve taken the time to truly understand your company and where you fit, take the plunge and add your personal strengths and talents into what the organization has to offer.  Consider the ways your own skills can improve company growth. By this stage, you’ll want to join in more on conversations rather than primarily listening as in the learning stage.  Remain attentive towards your boss’s expectations, but communicate openly and don’t be afraid to take on duties outside your core responsibilities.
  • 90 days – Transform.  When you reach the 90 day mark, your confidence will most likely have increased while your novice mistakes will have decreased. At this point, you should have a solid grasp on your role within the organization, allowing you to become more proactive with solutions for new projects. This period of transformation is prime time for monitoring and analyzing your personal growth as well as becoming more involved within the company.

Following the 30/60/90 plan provides a set path guiding you from a new hire to a key player within your company. This easy method of organization can help you make the most of the early stages in your new career to lead to future success.  If you would like additional help organizing a 30/60/90 plan for your new job, contact Staffers today!
