This Software Engineer position located in Jackson, MS, and is direct hire! This job requires the ability to develop and maintain moderately complex software systems that behave reliably and efficiently, are affordable to develop and maintain, and satisfy defined business and user requirements. You must be able to provide concern for details in all areas of software application development needed to fulfill the mission and priorities of the company and accomplish the desired outcomes of the Information Technology Department. This position requires that you provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques, and perform technical root-cause analysis and outline corrective action for given problems. You must understand the current state of the Society’s application technology, provide continual improvement of technology solutions, and guide future innovations to support the business needs of the Society. It is required that you apply a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus to the priority in developing solutions in a timely fashion, create software that meets departmental guidelines for coding standards, and best practices for change management. This job requires that you contribute to a team culture by working collaboratively and professionally with cross-functional IT teams and other Society staff, and provide mentoring of other IT programming staff. Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Application Development.
Qualifications include having a Bachelor’s degree or higher in software engineering, computer science or other related field from an accredited institution of higher learning, a minimum of three years full-time experience in software programming in object-oriented programming languages such as Java, C# or C++, a minimum of three years full-time experience developing web applications on the .Net or Java EE platform, and an appropriate combination of experience in web application development, database programming (i.e. Microsoft SQL server, Oracle, Informix, etc.), and systems programming. You have a demonstrated ability to design modular, reusable, scalable, and efficient software applications/systems and a demonstrated ability to both work independently and with groups on the development and completion of projects with deadlines. You must have excellent communication skills and a knowledge of the following a plus: PHP, XML, JavaScript, CSS 3, HTML 5, SOA, Linux.
