Time management can be tricky when the office is full of distractions that can get in the way of your productivity, which can subsequently make for a stressful workday. Here are a few simple tips that will help you to maximize your time and add more productive energy to your workday!

Don’t check your e-mail first thing in the morning.

When you arrive at work and you are getting ready to start your day, wait to check your e-mail! If you check your e-mail at the beginning of your workday, you are more likely to become distracted by e-mails that are not necessarily important. Start with something new and fresh that will kick you into gear. Take those first five minutes of your morning to jot down the tasks that you need to have completed by the end of the day. Keep the list short! Long lists can become overwhelming quickly and add stress to your day.

Start with the most difficult task on your to-do list.

After making a short-and-sweet to do list, begin your workday by tackling the most challenging item on your list. By starting with your most difficult task, you will be able to begin the day in an invigorating way. This will set the tone for the rest of your workday. Not to mention, while it certainly feels easier to procrastinate, if you save your most difficult task until the end of the day, you will most likely spend more time stressing out about it, which could lower your energy level. This could make your most challenging task even more challenging. Once you’ve gotten your most difficult task out of the way, the rest of the day will be a piece of cake!

Stretch and take energizing breaks.

If you are feeling sluggish or tired, do some simple stretches at your desk to re-energize, maybe even take a short walk. Movement and stretching will give you instant energy. If you are in a slump or feeling like you’ve lost some of your focus, doing some simple stretches or taking a walk will help you to regain some of your focus. Lastly: Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Don’t forget that it is impossible to achieve everything you need to every single day; therefore, it’s essential to focus on the important things first. Things come up—you can’t always control the way the productivity of your workday goes. With that being said, make time for you! Rather than frantically read through your emails during your lunch break, enjoy your lunch. Read a book. The time away from work will help you to re-energize and tackle the challenges you face.
